Opening Ceremony Friday, July 8.
--Venue: Clarke Central High School, A.B. Weathersby Field (corner of Baxter Street and S Rocksprings Street)
--Parking: Use the Baxter Street entrance and parking lot
--Date/Time: Friday, July 8, 6:00pm (Managers-coaches meeting will take place at 4:30pm in the gallery of the gymnasium at Clarke Central, which is located adjacent to the baseball field)
--Program: UGA Baseball Coach Scott Stricklin will be in attendance and address the crowd at around 6:30pm.
--Home Run Derby: Following Coach Stricklin's remarks, a home run derby will be run by Clarke Central baseball personnel and players. Each team needs to identify one player to participate in the derby as well as one coach/parent to pitch to the player. Format is each player gets as many swings as possible in two minutes for Round 1. Top 4 advance to Round 2, where each player will get 10 swings. Top 2 advance to final Round 3, where the two finalists get another 10 swings each to determine the winner. The field will be marked off just beyond the infield to designate the home run area (that is, a home run is recorded if the ball lands fair in the outfield beyond the marked off area of the infield).
--Restrooms: available inside the baseball field by the concession stand, or in the gymnasium adjacent to the baseball field.
--Food/Concessions: Each attendee will be served a "ballpark meal" including choice of hot dog and/or hamburger, potato chips, and bottled water. Meals will be served along the right field fence. Once attendees are inside the baseball complex, they can purchase other items from the concession stand.
--Seating: There is seating in the stands between the concession stand-restrooms and the two dugouts; however, it is limited seating, so we encourage families-teams to bring blankets, chairs, tents, etc. and set up in the outfield.
--Costs: Ballpark meals will be provided FREE for participating teams (players, one manager, and two coaches). We are asking for a $7 per guest donation to cover Athens Little League's costs to host the event. We will be able to take cash and cards at the event.
