Greenville, North Carolina, Selected as New Home of the Little League Softball World Series

This year’s tournament will feature 10 teams from around the world on August 12-19, 2020

Following a thorough search and evaluation conducted by members of the Little League® International staff, Greenville Little League and the City of Greenville, North Carolina, have officially been selected as the new home for the Little League Softball® World Series (LLSWS) as part of a five-year agreement. This year’s event will take place on August 12-19, 2020, and all games will be broadcast live on the ESPN Family of Networks for the third year in a row.

This February, as we celebrate Black History Month, Little League® International looks back at the 10 African-American members who have been enshrined into the Little League Hall of Excellence, the highest honor that Little League can bestow.

Every member of the Hall of Excellence has helped to shape the history of the Little League program, but more importantly, they have each served as a role model within their communities.

Junior League Baseball World Series Star, Patrick Mahomes, Named Super Bowl LIV MVP

Since he was a teenager, Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes has always found a way to shine on the big stage. From coming up clutch in key moments as a 14-year-old to lead Rose Capital East Little League (Tyler, Texas) to a runner-up finish at the 2010 Junior League Baseball World Series, to being named a 37th round draft pick by the Detroit Tigers in the 2014 MLB Draft, Mr. Mahomes’ early years were filled with impressive performances on the baseball field. One decade later, his continued leadership shines through on the gridiron as he engineered an impressive fourth-quarter comeback over the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl LIV and be named the Super Bowl MVP.

Son of former MLB pitcher Pat Mahomes, the 2020 MVP’s tremendous athletic career started off on a local Little League® field, like many other professional athletes. After his impressive Little League career, Mr. Mahomes went on to become a standout three-sport athlete at Whitehouse High School where he was named a Maxpreps Male Athlete of the Year for 2013-2014 and, after turning down the draft pick by the Tigers, continued his multi-sport career playing football and baseball at Texas Tech University.

2020 MLB Little League Classic Announced

The Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles will play in the fourth iteration of the "MLB Little League Classic presented by GEICO" in 2020, as announced by Major League Baseball (MLB), the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) and Little League International on Wednesday, August 7. The game, which will take place on Sunday, August 23, 2020 and serve as a home game for the Orioles, will air nationally that evening on ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball" and ESPN Radio at 7 p.m. (ET).

"Over the last two years, this event has brought so much excitement and joy to not only the MLB clubs and the Little Leaguers participating in the Little League Baseball World Series, but to all the young baseball and softball players at home watching the event on ESPN," said Stephen D. Keener, Little League President and CEO. "These two clubs have a long history of supporting Little League and the children in their communities, and we're looking forward to welcoming the first American League teams to the Little League World Series."
