Southeast Region Tournament Prep Workshop for District Staff

The Southeastern Region’s Tournament Prep Workshop is designed for District Administrators and staff members to help prepare for the upcoming International Tournament. During the Workshop, attendees will be exposed to a review of duties, application of tournament rules, tournament scenarios and a general review of tournament management and operations.  Attendees will leave equipped for the many aspects of the International Tournament.

Four-Umpire Mechanics Clinic

Begin your tournament season preparation with our annual Four-Umpire Mechanics & Tournament Prep Clinic. This three-day program will include advance classroom instruction along with on-field training. Participants will be able to work with the Southeastern Region Umpire Staff to learn proper four-umpire mechanics, rotations, and responsibilities. Each participant will receive individual plate mechanics instruction time which is recorded with a DVD provided to each student. This clinic will help prepare any umpire for the upcoming tournament season.

The Umpire School is based on solid educational principles, lecture, demonstration and supervised application conducted by the Southeastern Region Volunteer Umpire Staff that has more than 200 years of experience. Students will be provided with information and training to help them move their game to a higher level, which will include rule interpretations, proper mechanics, signaling, and positioning instruction.

Students are instructed in the two-umpire system on 60' and 70'/90' diamonds during sessions in the classroom, batting cages and at Little League Southeast Park. Topics during the School will include, but not limited to, angle/distance theory, timing techniques, proper plate and base mechanics, strike zone development, handling situations, and proper communication. Plate Mechanics are covered in detailed daily sessions, which are recorded and available to each student after the School concludes. Students will also participate in simulated game exercises and live games between local teams during the School. On-field activities, include live games are recorded and reviewed by attendees. Classroom sessions will include a comprehensive review of the Little League Rule Book. In the end, each student will be provided the tools necessary for becoming an advanced level umpire.

The Little League® Rules Seminar will provide education to all Little League volunteers with an extensive review of Little League Baseball and Softball Rules. Additionally, a review of select regulations that relate to on-field action will be included. The comprehensive review will dispel many myths of the games while also providing clarity, interpretation and application of the rules.

  • This event will be led by the Region’s experienced Volunteer Umpire Staff
  • Attendees must secure their own housing accommodations
  • This is a classroom-exclusive event

Two-Umpire Mechanics Clinic

The Two-Umpire Mechanics Clinic instructs participants both on the field and in the classroom on all principles of field mechanics and facets of the two-umpire system. Detailed plate mechanics are covered in cage sessions which are recorded and available to each student after the Clinic. Additional mechanics are covered in various drills and sessions. Classroom sessions provide tools and tips to improve an umpire’s game as well as a review of recent rule changes. This Clinic can serve as a learning opportunity or refresher for an umpire.
